§ I · Why we built it this way

The records are the product.

For an accredited lab, the LIMS isn't a productivity tool. It's the system of record that has to hold up when an A2LA or ANAB auditor sits down with your data. Lab Trace is built around that single fact. Sample tracking, results entry, CoA generation — they all exist to feed an audit trail that can be trusted on its own merits.

  1. Self-serve from the first sample.

Sign up, configure your test methods and specification limits, and log a sample the same afternoon. No implementation calls. No consultants. No setup fees.

  2. Every change is logged. Every entry is immutable.

Append-only by design. No edits in place. No soft deletes. Every action — who did what, when — recorded permanently. Each entry is cryptographically linked to the one before it, which means any attempt to modify a historical record breaks the chain. Tampering is mathematically detectable, not just discouraged.

  3. One-click audit reports.

When an auditor asks for records on a sample, a method, or a date range, Lab Trace generates a complete, signed audit report in one click. No extracting from spreadsheets. No reconstructing from email threads.

§ II · What it does

What Lab Trace handles.

Five things, done well. Everything you need, nothing you don't. The whole product is built to save you time and money.

01

Immutable, append-only audit trail.

Every action — who did what, when — recorded permanently and exportable as a signed audit report on demand. Compatible with 21 CFR Part 11 principles and the data integrity expectations of A2LA and ANAB auditors.

02

Sample tracking from receipt to release.

Every sample gets a unique ID at intake. Client, sample type, tests ordered, turnaround deadline, and current status — all visible on a single dashboard. Status moves from received to in testing to results pending to complete to released, with every transition logged.

03

Pass/fail determination against your specs.

Define your test methods and specification limits once, with simple overrides per client or per test when a job calls for it. Results entered against a method get pass/fail automatically. Out-of-spec results are flagged and require a documented disposition before they can be released.

Results entry screen with a pass badge next to a numeric result inside the specification limit.

04

Certificate of Analysis generation.

Professional CoA PDFs generated from the same structured data every time. Lab name, accreditation number, test methods, specs, results, units, electronic signatures. Same format, same quality, no manual layout work.

05

Role-based permissions.

Analysts enter results. Lab directors approve and release. Clients see only their own samples. Admins manage configuration. Set once, enforced everywhere.

§ III · Fit

Built for the lab director who is also the QA officer.

Lab Trace is for small ISO 17025-accredited contract testing labs in the US — the labs where the director is also the QA officer, the lead analyst, and the IT department. You don't have a procurement team. You don't have a consultant on retainer. You need software that respects your time and your budget, that you can stand up alone, and that holds up under an A2LA or ANAB audit.

This is for you if

Lab Trace is a good fit if

  • You run a small accredited food safety or environmental testing lab.
  • You're currently doing your records in Excel and email.
  • You need to pass ISO 17025, A2LA, or ANAB audits.
  • You want to evaluate the software yourself without scheduling a sales call.

This isn't for you if

Lab Trace is not the right fit if

  • You run a large lab with a dedicated IT team and existing LIMS infrastructure.
  • You need pharmaceutical cGMP, clinical CLIA, or calibration workflows.
  • You want a no-code automation platform or an AI-driven LIMS.

§ IV · Compliance

Built for what auditors actually look at.

ISO 17025 and 21 CFR Part 11 don't require certified software. They require records that hold up. Lab Trace is designed around what A2LA and ANAB auditors actually check during assessments: complete records, immutable audit trails, traceability from sample to method to result, electronic signatures attributable to a specific individual, and data integrity controls that prevent silent modification. Every action in the system is logged. There is no path that loses data.

Immutable audit trail.
Append-only by design. No edits in place, no soft deletes, no silent state changes.
Attributable electronic signatures.
Every signature linked to a named user with documented permissions.
Method traceability.
Every result linked to a specific approved test method and its specification limits.
